Yes this is typical. Unless you replace the battery
with an alternate battery pack alligator cliped
to the original, you will have the problem you
describe.
by law the game has to remember like the last
100 pulls. if the battery goes low voltage, the
game monitors this and gives the 12 error code.
if you just cut the old battery out and put a new
one in, it loses its memory, and the game gives
a 61 error.
This is USUALLY easy to fix though. Get the
61 error, and with the front door open, press
the diagnostic button inside the game. You
should get a 'bling' noise, and then the error
code '61 1'. This is good.
now close the front door, and using the jackpot
reset key on the side of the game, turn the key
once and let go (it's spring loaded).
The display error will go away, and in about
5 seconds the reels should spin and the game
should be ready for play.
